OUR VALUES
Fruitbatz, A Queer Literary Magazine was founded in Spring 2025 by Mel Alexander, Aiden Fijał, and Danne Wendel. Their goal is to emphasize queer and neurodivergent voices, uplift our community, and publish some good-ass writing. Since their primary goal is to highlight writers of various backgrounds and experiences, Fruitbatz accepts Poetry, Prose, and Mixed Media projects! The bolder the concept, the better!
Mel, Aiden, and Danne met through enrollment at Columbia College Chicago and really clicked! While in creative writing classes together, they realized a mutual passion for the editing and publishing world, and brainstormed this magazine. They're happy to see it finally come to FRUIT-ion, and warmly welcome you to this fruity little journal.

Danne Wendel
Danne Wendel is a fiction writer and poet from the Midwest. He received his bachelor's in creative writing from Columbia College Chicago in 2025. Danne's work is largely inspired by rural living, queer identity, his family, and a love of all things bizarre. He is set to have three pieces published with Allium this next year.

Melpomene Ray Alexander
Melpomene Ray (or just "Mel") is a transgender woman born somewhere South of the Mason-Dixon. Ever since leaving home and shooting-up Vitamin E, some might say the hormones've gotten to her head. Long walks in the dead of night. A strange fascination with Brad Pitt. As far as Mel's concerned, that's what she signed up for.
